Buffy walked along the quiet garden path toward a little pond with a waterfall. She was so tired and so weary; all she wanted to do was lie down and sleep forever. She was soul weary. Let another be the Slayer, daughter, friend and the lover. Let her sleep and rest! She turned the bend in the path and came upon a beautiful woman sitting next to the pond. Her eyes were kind and her face radiant. She smiled with a smile that went form her lips and glowed through her eyes and Buffy immediately felt wonderful just being in her presence.
“Buffy sit down. We need to talk.” The woman patted the ground next to her. Buffy sat obediently, not even wondering how this woman knew her name. She just knew that the woman knew everything. “You have an important decision to make and while we have a small bit of time here, it is a critical second long only to make the decision on the physical
plane.”Buffy looked at her with her big wide trusting eyes. What decision? All she wanted to do was stop and sleep and rest. She was so weary and tired.
“Buffy. You’re here because I called you to me. You’re a Slayer, which makes you mine. I am offering you a choice now to your higher soul. You must chose NOW. You’re severely injured and in surgery that the doctors do not expect you to survive. You can choose to die and to rest and recuperate as you instinctively so long to do.” Buffy’s eyes got wide.
“If you chose to die your soul will be separated from Angel for of hundreds of years. His business on earth is not done. The children you carry will die and the world will suffer for their loss. But you have fought hard and to rest is your right.” Buffy frowned this was what she wanted with all her soul, but to be separated from Angel for hundreds of years? Leave her babies to die?
“If you chose to live you will not have the easy life others can often expect. You will be Slayer Prime for as long as you walk the earth. Your Children will be apart from you although raised well. But most of all, you will have Angel. Remember he loves you. Although there are commitments and obligations he has, you are and always will be foremost in his heart and soul.”
Buffy felt the options weighing in her soul. To sleep to rest but not have Angel… or to stay and have Angel. It wasn’t even a contest. “I want Angel… Please?”
The woman smiled at her. “Then return to your body, your children and your own guardian Angel. When The Lady Tirla offers you a gift. Take it. It will give you forever!”
Buffy’s vital signs dipped much to the anesthesiologist’s alarm, and then seemed to stabilize in the middle of the procedure. They never thought she would live long enough to get off the table but she did.
She went to recovery room and continued to do well. The surgeon told the family she had survived and it would be highly touch and go. But now if her liver and kidney’s would start working she would have a chance.
Time crawled for Angel and her friends and family and everyday her numbers looked better, and her liver function was getting closer to normal and her kidney function started to return. Her dialysis went to every other day and the swelling started to decrease in her skin.
Three days had passed and they were lightening her sedation with hope to take her off the ventilator in the next few days. When she would arouse to command, all she mouthed was “Angel?” Angel just cried in relief as she squeezed his fingers to the nurse’s command, and tried to help with her turning. When finally they removed her from the ventilator Angel, was at her side. She was so beautiful. She was going to live! He stroked her hand and kissed her fingers as she mouthed “I love you,” to him since she was not allowed to talk. Tears streaked her face as she saw the love and passion in his eyes for her. She wanted to get out of the hospital and go home…
Buffy finally started to seriously heal. Her father and mother returned to California while she eventually moved out to a regular floor room after a week and then it was eventually arranged after another week or so for her to go home to Watcher Central to finish her healing.
